Detailing the Strategic Fit

University Plan

The Texas State University 2017-2023 University Plan contains four broad goals:

  • Goal 1: Promote the success of all students.
  • Goal 2: Offer high quality academic and education programming.
  • Goal 3: Achieve significant progress in research and creative activity as measured by national standards.
  • Goal 4: Provide the necessary services, resources, and infrastructure to support the university’s strategic direction.

Within these goals are 40 initiatives and key performance indicators. Several of those indicators suggest a fit for efforts to use learning technologies in alignment with the university’s overall plan. Specifically, item 2.4 calls on Texas State to “improve the capabilities in our learning spaces and learning environments to better foster creativity, enable collaboration, and encourage discovery.” Concurrent to the development of the University Plan, academic units engaged in strategic planning of their own and those plans may have included specific projects or plans for exploring active learning, distance learning, or other technology-supported teaching and learning approaches.

Proposals for TEALS must include, when present, evidence that the project is in alignment with departmental, college, and Academic Affairs strategic goals. Details should include the academic programs that will benefit from the classroom enhancement proposal. Evidence that the project has been thoughtfully integrated into planning will support approval.
