Overview
Health Information Management (HIM) is a healthcare profession that includes several STEM occupations combining knowledge and skills from healthcare, informatics, information technology, and business areas such as finance, legal compliance, management, and leadership. Credentialed HIM Professionals work in all healthcare settings alongside clinical and administrative colleagues on interprofessional teams. As healthcare becomes increasingly dependent on data, information, analysis, and technology, Health Information professionals ensure the availability, quality, integrity, usefulness, and security of health information required for evidence-based clinical decisions, reimbursement, compliance, and healthcare business operations. The program is in a two-plus-two format—two years of general core curriculum and prerequisite courses followed by two years of courses in the HIM professional phase of the curriculum.
